The dot SE ccTLD was created in 1986 and given to Sweden. During the first years after its establishment, the registration process was quite restrictive, so a very small number of domain names were ordered. Persons were permitted to grab only one domain under .PP.SE (“pp” stands for “private person”). Local presence was compulsory, i.e. only Swedish persons, commercial entities and organizations could register a .SE domain. In 2003, however, the registration process was liberalized notably and, consequently, the number of dot SE domains has been increasing each year.

At present, anybody can acquire a dot SE domain name, which allows you to get in touch with the Swedish web community even if you do not have a local presence.
